How to Prepare an Etching Plate (with traditional ball ground)


there’s a million ways to do it, but here’s my way!

  1.  Degrease your plate

  2.  Put the ground on your plate (hotplate heated to between 150-250 degrees, using the appropriate brayer and ground & TURN OFF THE HOTPLATE WHEN YOU’RE DONE :)

  3. Selectively remove the ground to create your image

  4.  Put backing to protect the back of your plate

  5. Etch your plate and pour the acid back into the jug when done

  6. Clean the ground off of your plate and remove backing

  7. Bevel your plate
